PROJECT INFORMATION:

Literature and poster. Correspondence of arts

Literature and Posters constitutes the fifth part of the Correspondence of Artsseries, which aims to present and analyse the links between literature and other fields of artistic creation. So far, the following have been published in terms of the series: Literature and Painting, Literature and Architecture, Literature and Music, and Literature and Dance.

In the monograph Literature and poster , the relationship between literature and poster is explored from a perspective of:

their birth, their essence, their distinctive features,

similarities and differences in terms of creative matter,

classification and varieties of poster,

the place of both creative fields in the genealogy of the arts,

functions and the transformation of language in the poster space,

analysis and interpretation („reading”) of a poster,

constructing verbal and iconic stylistic figures,

types of making literary works present in posters,

the impact of posters on literature,

intersemiotic translation,

the impact of a poster on a book (as a carrier of the written word), as well as on art and culture.

The aforementioned issues are subject to selecting verbal and iconic material, which constitutes the subject of research, analysis, and interpretation. The material was drawn from a number of cultural bases (Polish and universal) as well as many chronological periods (from antiquity to the present day).

Building knowledge about the borderline between literature and poster art is done with reference to the world of civilisation and culture. Hence also the presence of non-literary and non-fiction cultural texts (e.g. reproductions of paintings, photographs, sculptures, film stills, advertisements, and incidental prints) on the pages of the monograph. Their inclusion within the scope of the work reveals the artistic complexity of the described phenomenon, and its rooting in various spheres of aesthetic and extra-aesthetic human activity. It allows to present the process of art correspondence from a broader perspective, as part of the transformations taking place in the melting pot of art and culture.
