Project description

Due to the the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, particular attention is currently being paid to the core competences of psychologists, psychotherapists, and the wider emergency response group involved in psychological interventions in emergencies. Tackling the humanitarian crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic became a new social priority.Today, a key role is played by „psychological early intervention” understood in the project as psychological intervention in crisis situations.

The project is aimed at psychologists, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts and persons responsible for their training (trainers and teachers). Participants in the study will be people of different age ranges and life situations (children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, pregnant women, people with mental health problems, and people with dementia) exposed to all kinds of mental health crises caused by traumatic events such as health problems (e.g. as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic), natural disasters (earthquakes, tornadoes, etc.), social problems (riots, armed conflicts, refugee problems, terrorist attacks, suicides, stalking, sudden deaths, kidnappings, loneliness) and global phenomena (terrorism, economic crises).

The main objectives of the project are

  • improving the core competences of psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychoanalysts,
  • complementing the pedagogical competence of „early psychological intervention” teachers, trainers, and other persons conducting the training of psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychoanalysts
  • countering professional burnout and trauma among psychologists, psychoanalysts, and psychotherapists
  • qualified support of other rescuers, e.g. medical personnel
  • psychological support for people at a social level to speed up recovery from traumatic events.

 

Tasks

The project will produce so-called Intellectual Outputs. These will be innovative e-learning training courses, courses, and self-study teaching materials dedicated for psychologists, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, and their trainers, made available on the MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platform.

As a the Outcome of the intellectual work IO1 Psychological Early Intervention: clinical intervention, two MOOC training courses will be developed to improve the competences of psychologists, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts (target group 1), and their trainers (target group 2), based on interactive teaching methods and tools, including videos, case studies, games and exercises, simulations, and possibilities of peer evaluation.

The outcome of the intellectual work IO2 Psychological Early Intervention Tool Kit: skills portfolio for psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychoanalysts and VET, trainers with role of facilitator in emergency includes two tool kits for psychologists, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, and their trainers for self-training including debriefing after psychological interventions in emergency situations. Toolkit 1 Experiential soft skills training in Psychological Early Intervention, by strengthening and developing soft skills such as resilience to stress, empathy, and teamwork, aims to prevent burnout, while Toolkit 2 Psychological Early Intervention coordination and management aimed at the trainers of the above-mentioned professional groups aims to strengthen the trainees' management competences such as communication skills, team coordination skills, and goal-setting skills.

As a result of the intellectual work IO3 Psychological Early Intervention: Collection of Case Studies, a collection of “case studies” will be created, containing analyses of various cases in the context of crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, social conflicts, traffic accidents, natural disasters etc.

The international project Psyc.E.In. – Psychological early intervention: clinical training, the part of the Jan Kochanowski University involves lecturers from the Medical College and the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology.
