Financial aid
The financial aid is granted on the basis of the student's application, attached to the Regulations, submitted to the SC, through the Dean's Office. It is an ad hoc form of assistance for a student who is temporarily in a difficult life situation.
A difficult living situation is understood to be the totality of conditions caused by a fortuitous event affecting the financial situation of the student's family. Difficult life situation, e.g. material, family, social, health can be in particular: illness of the student or a member of his/her immediate family, accident or death of a member of the student's immediate family, damage caused by another fortuitous event (e.g. fire, natural disaster, catastrophe), etc.
The following, in particular, may serve as proof of a difficult life situation: death certificate, hospital discharge, relevant medical certificate of illness or accident, personal invoices confirming the expenses related to the fortuitous event, certificates issued by authorised institutions confirming the fact of the fortuitous event.
A student may receive a financial aid twice in an academic year.
The financial aid is not available if the student has invoked the same circumstances in the application for the financial aid as in the application for a social scholarship in an increased amount,
and this scholarship has been awarded.
In the application, the student should provide extensive and detailed information about the circumstances that caused his/her difficult life situation and demonstrate that there is an adequate causal link between the event and being temporarily placed in a difficult life situation causing costly and short-term difficulties in studying.
The application must be accompanied by documents proving the existence of a difficult life situation.
The application for the financial aid should be submitted no later than three months after the circumstances giving rise to the entitlement to the benefit.
A student may not receive a financial aid for the same event more than once in an academic year.
During a period of curtailment or suspension of the JKU's operations, the financial aid is granted by the Rector.
During the period of curtailment or suspension of the JKU's operation, the financial aid is not subject to:
- the provisions of the Code of Administrative Proceedings;
- provision § 25 sec. 4 of the Regulations.
Formal-legal entitlement to benefits
Benefits are available for first-cycle studies, second-cycle studies and long-cycle master studies.
The total period for which benefits are available is 12 semesters, regardless of the student's intake, with the proviso that within this period benefits are available for:
- first-cycle studies - no longer than 9 semesters;
- second-cycle studies - no longer than 7 semesters.
The total period referred to in sec. 4, shall be extended by 2 semesters where the student has undertaken a long-cycle master degree programme, the duration of which is 11 or 12 semesters as stipulated in the regulations.
All semesters of studies started by the student, including semesters falling within the period of use of leaves of absence, shall be included in the period for which benefits are granted, with the exception of semesters of further first-cycle studies started or continued after the first bachelor's, engineer's or equivalent degree has been obtained. In the case of studying in more than one field of study, semesters taken concurrently are treated as one semester.
The above provisions shall apply mutatis mutandis to students who have studied or obtained their degrees abroad
Scholarship benefits are not available to a student holding a Master, Master of Engineering or equivalent degree, regardless of when and in which field of study it was obtained.
The right to these benefits is also deprived of the holder of a bachelor's, engineer's or equivalent degree if he/she resumes his/her first-cycle studies.
