Accommodation in the Student Dormitory

Accommodation in Student Dormitories is provided in accordance with the rules set out in §29 of the Rector's Ordinance No. 169/2020 of 31 August 2020 on the Regulations for Students' Benefits of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce

 

  1. JKU students can apply for a place in the Student Dormitory.
  2. A place in the Student Dormitory is granted for a period of 9 months starting from 1 October of the relevant academic year.
  3. The granting of a place in the Student Dormitory to a student who has applied to live with his/her spouse or child is equivalent to granting this right to the spouse or child.
  4. Priority for a place in the Student Dormitory is given to a full-time student who is in a difficult financial or living situation.
  5. A place in the Student Dormitory is allocated on the basis of a ranking list.
  6. The position on the ranking list, subject to sec. 7, shall be determined on the basis of the number of points calculated by an authorised employee of the University based on the documents submitted by the student. The number of point shall be recorded on the student's application.
  7. Students whose both parents are deceased or who are fostered in children's homes or in foster care are placed first on the ranking list.
  8. The following criteria are used to determine the number of points:
  1. distance from permanent residence:
  1. up to 30 km - 0 pts;
  2. 31 - 80 km - 5 points;
  3. 81 - 150 km - 10 points;
  4. 151 - 250 km - 15 points;
  5. more than 250 km - 20 pts.
  1. other:
  1. studying at least two programmes - 5 points;
  2. having only one parent - 10 points;
  3. being in foster care - 10 points;
  4. having a sibling in full-time education or studying full-time - 5 points;
  5. suffering damage due to a fortuitous event (e.g. fire, flood) occurring in the 12 months prior to the date of application - 10 points;
  6. performance of social activities e.g.: in the Students' union, youth organisations, in the Residents' Council of the Student's Dormitory - 8 pts.
  1. negative points are awarded when the resident:
  1. has been deprived of a place in the Student Dormitory - 30 points;
  2. has failed three times to pay the fees for a place in the Student Dormitory - 10 points;
  3. has been validly punished by a disciplinary committee and the punishment has not been erased - 10 points.

 

  1. A place in the Student's Dormitory for JKU students and their spouses and children is granted on the basis of a written application by the student which is an annex to the Regulations.
  2. The application referred to in sec. 1 shall be submitted by:

 

  1. 20 September - for students starting their studies at the JKU,
  2. 16 June - for other students.

 

  1. The application referred to in sec. 1 must be accompanied by the following documents:

 

  1. certificates of attendance at school or full-time or part-time study for siblings under the age of 26,
  2. confirmation of the distance between the place of residence and the seat of the University, e.g. bus or train ticket,
  3. a copy of the marriage certificate (to be inspected) - in the case of students applying for a marriage room,
  4. a copy of the birth certificate (to be inspected) - in the case of students applying to live with their child,
  5. other documents proving that they meet the criteria set out in § 29 sec. 8 point 2 of these Regulations (documents such as those issued under the Civil Records Act, court decisions are presented for inspection only).

 

  1. The student applies only to the Student Dormitory designated by the student. Submitting applications to more than one Student Dormitory will result in removal from the list of applicants.
  2. If there are no vacancies in the designated Student Dormitory, the student may be offered a place in another Student Dormitory.
  3. A student who has provided false data or documents in order to obtain a place in a Student Dormitory shall, upon disclosure, be deprived of a place in a Student Dormitory by the decision of the Deputy Rector responsible for students and doctoral students.
  4. The application referred to in sec. 9 shall be forwarded to a Committee consisting of: employees of the University designated by the Rector and students delegated by the Students' union.
  5. At the first meeting, the members of the Committee elect a chairman of the Committee from among themselves. Election is by simple majority with at least half of the Committee present.
  6. The Committee establishes a ranking list and, on the basis of this list, distributes 60% of the places in the Student Dormitories after 16 June (first allocation of places).
  7. After 20 September, the Committee will allocate 38% of the places in the Student Dormitories (second allocation of places).
  8. The ranking list for the second allocation of places includes those who start their studies at the JKU and those who were not allocated places during the first allocation.
  9. Information on the allocation of a place in the Student Dormitory can be obtained at the Student Dormitory or will be forwarded to the e-mail address which was indicated in the application.
  10. Persons who have not been allocated a place in the Student Dormitory in the second allocation may, by 28 September, submit applications for reconsideration of the case, which are annexed to the Regulations.
  11. Requests for reconsideration shall be forwarded to the Committee. The Committee establishes a ranking list and allocates, on the basis of this list after 28 September, 2% of the places in the Student Dormitories, as well as the places allocated during the first and second allocation that have become vacant.
  12. Those who have not been allocated places, as a result of a request for reconsideration, are placed on a reserve list.
  13. A list of persons who have been allocated a place in a Student Dormitory for a given academic year shall be sent to the relevant dean's offices for the dean's information.
  14. Those on the reserve list may be offered a place in the Student Dormitory if places become vacant.
  15. Part-time students as well as students from other universities may be offered a place in the Student Dormitory within the framework of vacancies.
  16. A resident loses his/her place in the Student Dormitory in the event of:

 

  1. the expiry of the granted accommodation period,
  2. failure to pay or replenish the deposit within the prescribed period,
  3. the expiry of the declared seat cancellation deadline,
  4. removal from the list of students,
  5. a valid suspension of the student's right to live in the Student Dormitory by a decision of the disciplinary committee for the duration of the suspension.

 

  1. A resident may be deprived of the right to live in the Student Dormitory on the basis of a written decision of the Deputy Rector responsible for students and doctoral students if:

 

  1. he/she violated the Student Dormitory Rules,
  2. he/she has commenced a dean's or health leave,
  3. he/she has failed to observe the student oath or has otherwise behaved in a manner detrimental to the dignity of the student.

 

  1. The rules of residence in the student dprmitory, including the rights and duties of the resident, housekeeping regulations, the financial responsibility of the residents and the powers and duties of the Residents' Council are laid down in the Rules and Regulations of the student dormitory.
